Ivo bags his second and yes, that is his boot in the background
Ramsey’s back line were unstoppable at the Mooragh although it did take them ten minutes to crack a stubborn Vikings defence. Dan Richmond orchestrated the breakthrough with a Crossfield run and a pop to Brandon Atchison who charged over from close range. Tom Moffatt converted for a 7-0 lead. From the restart Ramsey looked dangerous and when the backs were released into space on halfway, young wing Ivo Morrey raced in for the first of his senior debut hat trick. Two minutes later Ramsey were in again. This time the Mooragh flying machine Atchison received the ball in space and when he lit up his afterburners the Vikings defence was unable to stop him. Moffatt converted again and Ramsey were 19-0 in front after just fifteen minutes.
With twenty minutes on the watch the Richmond brothers came to the Ramsey party. Dan the elder was first. He chipped ahead and won the footrace before brother Jake also weighed in from close range. Tom Moffatt converted both and the lead was out to 33-0.
Vikings however hadn’t played that badly and soon it was their time to hit back. As the half hour approached a ruck formed just inside the Ramsey half. The ball popped out the narrow side and Vikings wing Harvey Callister was quickest to react. He outpaced the Ramsey defence down the left hand touchline for a try on his senior debut with dad Juan playing in the Vikings back row among the first to congratulate him. This left Ramsey 33-5 in front at half time.
Dan Richmond sent Kevyn DeSouza clear early in the second half to extend the Ramsey lead however moments later Vikings struck back. Stand off Olly Bowles took first phase ball from a scrum and ran across the face of the Ramsey defence. A gap opened up for him and he arced through it to dot down under the posts to bring the game back to 38-10.
The Viking resurgence ended there though. As they tired in the latter stages of the game, the Ramsey backline showed no mercy. Ivo Morrey raced in for his second, Brandon Atchison completed his hat trick down the left wing and then Kevyn DeSouza ran in a long range effort for his second of the game and with just over an hour gone, Ramsey were 55-10 in front. In the final ten minutes Atchison ran in his fourth and Murray completed his hat trick with Atchison and Dan Richmond adding the conversions.
