Conor Goodall mlights up the afterburners
There was non stop action at the Mooragh from start to finish. A Connor Casey break in the second minute opened the game up for Ramsey. He didn’t quite make the line but the ball was recycled quickly and opposite wing Brayden Roche finished off. Brandon Atchison converted for a 7-0 lead. Three minutes late though a thundering run from Orry Watterson carved a hole in the Ramsey defence and Sean Christian raced in to score for Nomads.
Three quick tries for Ramsey then saw them accelerate clear. Jake Richmond raced in for the first, Josh Corteen found a mismatch in the backline for the second and Connor Casey returned a Nomad punt for the third. Atchison converted all three and with just under twenty minutes played Ramsey were 28-5 ahead.
Sean Christian struck back for Nomads when he found the outside of the Ramsey line and his break was finished off by George Callister but it was Ramsey who finished the first half on a high. A five metre tap penalty saw scrum half Nathan Robson sneak over the line and with the final play of the half, another Casey run found Robson in support and he dived in for his second to leave Ramsey 40-10 ahead at the break.
In the opening play of the second half Brandon Atchison raced in for the first of his four tries and added the conversion. Nomads then retaliated with a Tony Quinn double. The southern paceman outstripped the Ramsey defence down the right flank twice in succession and when Mark Young converted the lead was down to 47-22 and the possibility of a big comeback was on the cards.
Ramsey responded with an avalanche of tries. Former captain Henry Swithinbank started the deluge and Atchison soon followed. Swithinbank then picked up his second as did Josh Corteen. Atchison then completed his hat trick and with just over ten minutes to play Kieran Kneale went in under the posts. Atchison added another conversion and from looking at a possible comeback, Nomads found themselves 80-22 behind.
A Conor Goodall break was finished by Atchison for his fourth before Nomads had the final say. Tom Collister dived in for his first of the afternoon and who else but Orry Watterson picked up Nomads sixth try with the final move of the match.
