Ramsey beat Southern Nomads 93-0 at a blustery Mooragh Park with the scoreboard ticking steadily from start to finish.
Nomads had the strong wind at their backs in the first half and understandably opted to kick downfield and make Ramsey attack from deep inside their own territory, which is exactly what they did. After multiple phases of short passing and pick and drive, Brandon Atchison made a break, drew the Nomads full back and offloaded to Ryan Wren for the opening try after just three minutes.
Ramsey then struck twice more in quick succession to really put Nomads under an early cosh. From the restart Jake Richmond found space after throwing a big dummy. He glided past his marker and sent Atchison clear. Once again he drew the final defender and offloaded for Richmond to finish what he had started. The second came from a tap penalty and was finished by second row Josh Corteen. Atchison converted all three leaving Ramsey 21-0 up after ten minutes.
There was then a twenty minute respite for Nomads. In the middle there was a fifty metre run in from Ramsey wing Danny Howard but on the whole, the Nomads defence seemed to be holding up. Ten minutes before half time though, and trailing now 28-0, the defence collapsed. Josh Corteen bagged his second on the half hour from close range. Danny Howard then found space wide on the left and his inside pass found Jake Richmond who ran in his second. From the restart Ramsey skipper Matt Meechan ran the ball back for a try and then with the final play of the half, Brandon Atchison galloped in from halfway. With Atchison missing just one conversion, Ramsey led 54-0 at half time.
The second half started in a similar fashion to the first. Ramsey replacement Matt Livesey sent a pass to Eddie Lord for a try after four minutes. Nomads then rallied and had a little purple patch inside the Ramsey twenty two. Mark Young fizzed the ball around and they were inches from the line at one stage. Ramsey held firm and eventually turned over possession and counterattacked. Joey Callow ran the ball out from defence, he found Brandon Atchison and with a tailwind, he was uncatchable. Three minute later Josh Corteen delivered a perfect pass to Connor Cracknell and he touched down for a 69-0 lead.
There was more to come from Ramsey who were ruthless. Will Millsopp popped up on the end of the back line for a simple score. Simon Corlett’s wing break set up Josh Corteen for his hat trick and he was quickly followed in by Jake Richmond and Brandon Atchison who both completed their hat tricks before the end of the game.
