(HT 37-7)

Firwood Waterloo RFC
Touring teams can pose a bit of a conundrum and you're never sure exactly what going to turn up or what state they may be in. Firwood Waterloo were however the perfect visitors.
The fielded a "highly experienced" team which was perhaps a little short on pace but extremely gifted with nous.

Joey "the punchbag" Callow tweaked a hamstring in warm up so couldn't make his debut at scrum half but Kyle Martin from Douglas turned up and was a more than adequate replacement. He ran in two tries in the opening seven minutes to give the reds a solid start. Jim Lantry, Simon Corlett and Danny Howard all then ran in additional tries and with a Kyle Martin conversion added to the mix, we were 27-0 ahead after quarter of an hour. Waterloo's forwards were however rucking and mauling really well and it was no surprise when they touched down after twenty. A Will Millsopp double then followed and he converted one of these to leave us in front 39-7 at half time.

Clearly not wanting to humiliate our guests skipper Meechan made some tactical and positional changes at half time and got the desired result. Waterloo gained more ball and they quickly worked two tries of their own to pull themselves back into the game. They were however always vulnerable to a long range breakaway and Kieran Kneale bagged one back at the other end and Kyle Martin completed his hat trick.

Massive thanks to Waterloo who were absolute gents on and off the pitch and great ambassadors for their Club. We will undoubtedly travel to play them next seasom.
