Ramsey went down 50-29 to Burnley at the Mooragh Park in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire with Burnley wing Harry Cole running in an incredible five tries. Ramsey did however pick up a try bonus point and trailed by just 26-22 at half time.
After a lively start Cole opened up with his first after just four minutes when Ramsey’s defence was outflanked wide on the right. He took a pop pass from centre Jack Uttley and his pace did the rest. Joe Bramhall added the conversion for a 7-0 lead. Just after ten minutes Ramsey were on the attack and as they poured forward the ball was spilled. Cole scooped it up and raced downfield to double the lead after he converted his own try.
Just after quarter of an hour Ramsey struck back. Matt Meechan broke the line and sent skipper Josh Corteen clear. He drew the full back and offloaded to scrum half Dan Kelly who finished off. The resurgence didn’t last however. As the half hour neared another Ramsey attack faltered. Burnley recovered the ball and had a four on one overlap which was finished by number eight Ayrton Campbell. Bramhall converted for a 21-5 lead.
With just under five till half time the game exploded into life. Ramsey pulled one back to start off the action with Matt Meechan barrelling over the line from a tap penalty. Dan Kelly added the extras. From the restart Harry Cole completed his hat trick with another long range high speed run. There was still enough time left for Ramsey’s right wing Will Millsopp to strike twice. He bounced off a tackle for the first while Kieran Kneale sent him clear for the second and when the whistle finally went, it was four point game with Burnley 26-22 ahead.
The twenty minute spell right after the break was when the game swung firmly in Burnley’s favour. Just three minutes in Cole struck for his fourth, which Bramhall converted. Four minutes late centre Marcus Duxbury crashed in from close range with Bramhall again doing the honours with the conversion. Finally, just before the hour Burnley’s left wing Tom Graveston got in on the action and his try left Burnley 45-22 front and the game probably gone for Ramsey. Cole’s fifth bang on the hour only reinforced that.
With just over ten minutes remaining Ramsey put the visitors’ line under pressure and were rewarded when skipper Josh Corteen bashed his way over the line from close range. Dan Kelly converted but despite battling all the way o the final whistle, Ramsey were unable to add any more.
