In the Manx Bowl there was a huge shock for joint leaders Emerging Nomads who were flattened 83-10 by a Ramsey B juggernaut at the Mooragh Park. Neil Hulme’s Ramsey side have been growing in confidence and have now won four on the bounce and could be an outside bet for the title.
It took just three minutes for Ramsey to break the deadlock. Jared May crashed the ball in close to the Nomads line. The ruck was cleaned quickly and Ramsey skipper Johnny Dean slipped through the reorganising defence for the opening try. Darragh Pilkington added the conversion. As quarter of an hour approached with the exception of one Mike Shipley midfield break, Nomads were on the back foot. As the pressure built, Ramsey went in for their second with prop Matt Livesey getting the score following a pick and go drive. A fifty-metre solo break from scrum half Jonny Mason gave a third Ramsey try and was quickly followed by the bonus point fourth try which came from full back Jake Richmond and was the first of his hat trick. Darragh Pilkington added a conversion and a shell-shocked Nomads were 24-0 adrift and were struggling even when Ramsey lost Ali Kennaugh to the sin bin for a high tackle.
As the half hour mark approached Nomads finally showed some of their table topping form. Dan Bridle kicked them downfield and Mike Shipley crashed over the Ramsey line from close range to put his team on the board. The glimpse of form was however very brief and from the restart Ali Kennaugh crashed the ball into the heart of the visitors’ defence. Jonny Mason fizzed a pass wide and right wing Kevyn De Souza danced through the cover to score. Owen Bevan went in from close range for Ramsey on thirty-five minutes and a trademark Jared May rumble then created space for De Souza to skip in for his second. Darragh Pilkington’s conversion ended the first half with Ramsey firmly in charge at 41-5.
Sadly, for Nomads the second half didn’t improve. In the very first minute Ramsey replacement Dave Keenan stripped the ball in a tackle and raced in from thirty metres to extend the Ramsey lead, with Pilkington converting. Nomads then once again gave a brief display of resistance when Mike Shipley made another line break and set up field position for Jake Walmsley to score. This brought the score to 48-10 but was the final act of defiance.
With twenty-five to go, Ramsey started a scoring spree which ran until the final whistle. Jake Richmond powered in for his second to start the ball rolling. Three minutes later Keenan went in for his second. To make matters worse, Nomads then lost Jake Walmsley to the sin bin and the rot really set in. Sean O’Sullivan raced past some tired legs for the first of his two. Three minutes later Dave Keenan ran out of gas just shy of the Nomads line but was able to pop off the ground to O’Sullivan who bagged his second to push the lead to 68-10 with ten minutes to play.
The final ten saw Nomads leak a further three tries. Jake Richmond kicked off with his hat trick try in only his second senior match. Second row Keith Littleworth stretched out a long arm from a ruck to bag his first of the season and Owen Bevan rounded proceedings off with his second of the game in the final play.
