Another big win for Ramsey in Ravenscroft Manx Trophy
Ramsey beat Douglas Celts 73-7 at Port-e-Chee to keep their run of big results coming. Brandon Atchison was again the star with four more tries for his haul.
Ramsey were missing their usual clinical touch in the opening half hour and scoring was slow. The home defence was solid too and it took over quarter of an hour for the first real opening. Ramsey turned over a Douglas attack on halfway. Full back Fintan Cummins immediately spotted a counterattack opportunity on the left he screamed for the ball. Dan Richmond obliged and after drawing the last man, Cummins found Brandon Atchison outside him for the opening score.
It took another fifteen minutes for the second try. Dave Keenan picked a great line into the Douglas twenty-two. The ball was then moved wide to right wing Peter Frankwick and his offload found Fintan Cummins who finished the move off. This try seemed to spur Ramsey on further and soon the Douglas floodgates give way. On thirty-two minutes Adam Dunlop sneaked in under a pile of bodies. Two minutes later Atchison raced in for his second and suddenly the lead was 20-0.
There was more misery to come before the half time whistle too. Richmond made forty metres from a quickly taken penalty and when he was felled just shy of the Douglas line, prop Adam Dunlop battered his way in from close range for his second. There was still one shot in the Ramsey locker. Atchison completed his hat trick in the thirty ninth minute to leave Ramsey 30-0 in front at the break.
Ramsey started exactly where they left off. Callum Clague caught the restart and ploughed deep into Douglas territory. Dan Richmond was on hand to finish it off and he converted his own score. Three minutes later they were in again. The set scrum shunted Douglas off their own ball and Richmond sent Atchison clear down the left for his fourth and a 42-0 lead. 42-0 became 54-0 very quickly. Dan Richmond bagged his second in the forty sixth minute and in the fiftieth, Dave Keenan finished off a sixty metre run with a try which Richmond converted.
With the game clearly won, Ramsey eased off a little in the closing stages and only score three more. Callum Clague picked up the first when he followed up another Keenan line break. Fintan Cummins then got clear down the left and he found replacement Ben Harding on hand to finish the move. Finally, Dan Bonwick went in for the last score of the game when he picked Douglas’ pocket from a five metre scrummage.
