There was no change at the top of the Manx Bowl standings with both top teams claiming bonus point wins. Ramsey beat Western Vikings 73-29 at Mooragh Park while Vagabonds disposed of Emerging Nomads 56-19 at Ballafletcher.
Despite losing Matt Meechan to a yellow card after just thirty-one seconds, it was Ramsey who took the lead. Six minutes into the game Conor Cracknell broke through the Vikings defence and set off down the left wing. He was brought down shy of the line but popped the ball up off the ground to find Josh Corteen galloping up in support to score the try. Darragh Pilkington converted. Eight minutes late Ramsey added their second and it was a carbon copy of the first. Cracknell made the hard yards and Corteen applied the finish. From the restart it was Ramsey again. This time Joe Flanagan made the incision and Jack Roberts rounded it off.
With Ramsey 17-0 and playing into the wind things were looking bleak for Vikings. In the twenty fourth minute though they pulled one back. Ollie Bowles opened up the Ramsey defence and got close to the line where prop Josh Hockney crashed over. As the half hour mark passed, Vikings clawed another back. Ramsey failed to gather a loose ball behind their try line and presented the marauding Harry Goodwin with the simplest of touchdowns to cut the Ramsey lead to 17-10.
Two Ramsey tries in two minutes cancelled out the Vikings comeback. Jack Roberts send Matt Meechan in for the first which Pilkington converted and from the restart Josh Corteen returned the kick with interest for the second and his hat trick. In stoppage time at the end of the half, Vikings pulled another back when Hockney barged in for his second. Ciaran Stephens’ conversion brough the first half to an end with Ramsey in front 29-17.
Ramsey roared out of the blocks for the second half. A Jim Lantry chip ahead sat up perfectly for Ramsey wing Connor Casey who gathered at full pace without breaking stride. He touched down under the posts and Pilkington converted. Vikings returned the compliment three minutes later. Josh Hockney bulldozed up the middle of the field and the ball was moved left where Ollie Bowles ran in for the try to leave Vikings trailing 36-22.
From that point on however the traffic flow was pretty much one way. Dale Radcliffe ran in for Ramsey from a standing start. Josh Corteen picked up his fourth of the game, Ben Hardman claimed one for the front row and Darragh Pilkington added a penalty after Vikings’ Jack Goodwin earned ten minutes in the slammer.
With Ramsey now 56-22 in front the result was almost guaranteed. They added additional tries though as the game closed out. Connor Casey bagged two more to complete his hat trick and Joe Flanagan also picked up a try. In between all this, Vikings ran in their fifth of the afternoon via Sam Fletcher, with Ollie Bowles converting.
