Ramsey B beat Western Vikings 64-12 at the Mooragh Park to secure second place in the competition and give themselves a home semi final which will coincidentally be against Western Vikings.
Vikings stormed into a first minute lead. Ramsey’s kick off failed to travel the required ten metres and gave Vikings the feed to a scrum on halfway. From the set piece Ciaran Stephens broke the Ramsey defensive line and he drew the Ramsey full back and popped to Toby Poole-Wilson who finished neatly. Ed Knight added the extras to give Vikings a 7-0 lead before anyone had broken sweat. The lead however didn’t last and within three minutes Ramsey were back level after Joe Flanagan raced in from twenty metres and Darragh Pilkington converted.
With the barnstorming start over, the game settled down for almost twenty minutes and the deadlock was only broken by some individual skill. Ramsey had earned a line out on the Vikings twenty two. The ball wasn’t clean and Ramsey’s stand off Fintan Cummins had the defence almost on him when the pass arrived. He stepped inside the first tackle and then ran an arc before driving over the line. Pilkington converted again for a 14-7 lead.
Ramsey struck twice again just after the half hour. Former Viking Peter Crowe made a big break for the first of these. He was brought down shy of the line but drew a penalty. Ramsey’s young scrum half Nathan Robson tapped it quickly and dived over for his first of the game. Four minutes later it was another big line break this time from number eight Dave Keenan. He went down the lakeside touchline and found Darragh Pilkington in support to finish the move. Pilkington converted his own try to make it 26-7. Vikings pulled one back just before half time when Josh Hockney went on one of his trademark trundles and bulldozed his way over the Ramsey line to leave the Ramsey lead 26-12 at the break.
Ramsey claimed the game with another two tries in quick succession ten minutes into the second half. Ben Pickett danced in for the first of these on the left wing and centre Connor Casey fair galloped in for the second which was converted by Ben Harding to leave the lead at 38-12. Just after the hour Tynan Pritchard finished off a Robson break to make it 43-12 and put the result beyond doubt.
In the final five minutes Ramsey ran in three converted tries to give the scoreboard a look which didn’t really reflect the rest of the game. Nathan Robson picked up his second, Chris Hardisty and Al Christian carved out a break for Ben Harding and finally Connor Casey bagged his break. Nathan Robson underlined his potential by converting all three for an impressive 16 point personal haul.
